We have all heard those words – ‘self-care’- but what does it actually mean?
‘the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.’ Oxford Dictionary, 2019
Today, it really is a buzz word that we hear all the time, isn’t it? You see it on t-shirt slogans, yoga studios and in almost all LinkedIn posts about how to reduce stress. In 2018 more than half of millennial women made it their new year’s resolution. Nearly 2 years on, I wonder how many people will make it their resolution for a new decade? Will you be one of those people?
Taking a little me time has so many health benefits, we are all aware of, reducing stress, sleeping better, increased productivity and better relationships. And we all feel like we are supposed to be doing it, don’t we? But how do you fit it in to an already busy schedule.
I recently posted the below picture and I think it really sums up how we all feel at times! There is so much to do and we have so much on our minds and now we need to get more time for self-care!! However, the busier you are, the more important self-care is!

How can a personal lifestyle assistant really help you make time for self-care? By handing over your to do list, handing over those tasks that you don’t have time for gives you back time for self-care. If you think that you don’t have time for that yoga class or to meditate for even 10 minutes a day, because you have a work deadline, you need to sort the kids party, order new school uniform, arrange flowers for a bereaved friend, book the girls weekend away, book onto that self-care yoga class, the list is really endless. That list can become my list freeing up your time to focus on your family, on your job and most importantly on YOU!
As a virtual lifestyle PA, I can give you back time to do the things that really matter. By working with me we can really make the list and worries go away.
A recent client of mine said of my services:
“ Alys has helped my life in so many ways. My mental health has improved since using her services. Everyone needs a Helpful Alys in their lives!”
Some hints and tips on making time for self-care:
· Get your to do list sorted – writing everything that is on your mind down on a list, is a really great way to get some breathing space
· Start journaling – like the above, getting everything out, makes space in your mind, getting all your worries and fears down on paper feels like a light release
· Make time for yourself – schedule it in, make it a priority, even once a month to start is
· Break up with your phone – set a time on your social media apps
· Use your phone to your advantage – download an app – there are plenty on the market at the moment – a few to try
- Happify
· Be kind to yourself – giving yourself a break from the stresses of life, and making time for yourself is one the best things anyone can do.
